Football’s worst kept secret is with Man United looking to sign highly-rated Ruben Amorim from Portuguese giants Sporting.

At just 39 years old, the former midfielder has made a name for himself thanks to the way his teams play football.

In fact, his statistics at Sporting make for very impressive reading.

Man United want Amorim in quickly

After the dismissal of Erik ten HagUnited supporters will be hoping for an immediate rise in performance and results, although it’s worth noting that apart from a short spell in the Qatari Stars League, Amorim has only played and managed in Portugal.

The pressure on him will be immense from the outset and, while it looks like he won’t wake up, he will be the seventh manager to attempt to bring back the glory days at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

Amorim must succeed where David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and ten Hag have failed.

With all due respect to the Portuguese, some of those mentioned are the names of well-loved managers, and fans would be forgiven for thinking that if they can’t strike a chord in United’s squad, which makes Amorim so confident he can.

It is clear that time is also essential, as The Times (subscription required) want him to be on top before the Chelsea game at the weekend.

This could spell bad news for the Blues, as a full Old Trafford crowd will be anticipating Amorim’s home debut, and he will be eager to prove to the club that they have made the right decision.

Of course, there are still plenty of discussions between both clubs before Amorim can be introduced, and it may well be decided that the ‘Super Sunday’ game comes a little too soon for the new regime.
