Roy Keane ‘can’t believe how bad’ Trent Alexander-Arnold’s defense is

Roy Keane has criticized Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold’s defense following his performances as an international.

Alexander-Arnold started both of England’s recent UEFA Nations League games against Greece and Finland.

The Liverpool star had mixed success, delivering some fine moments at Wembley against Greece, but playing his part in a outrageous England performance as they went down with a 2-1 defeat.

After starting at right-back against Greece, Alexander-Arnold switched to left-back for the trip to Helsinki.

The 26-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract with Liverpool and currently linked to Real Madrid — was again excellent on the ball, completing 95 passes and 10 in the final third, while making it 2-0 to England with a beautiful free kick.

But their opponents again gave England a serious test and Alexander-Arnold was guilty of being out of position a few times to allow Finland openings.

An alleged inability to defend has long been a criticism leveled at Alexander-Arnold, even though he was a key part of a Liverpool side that won the lot under Jurgen Klopp.

His latest performance in England seems to have done nothing to silence those critics, with former Manchester United captain Roy Keane unleashing a brutal rant about his apparent weakness.

“When you give Trent time, his delivery is fantastic. But I still can’t believe how bad he is defensively,” Keane told ITV Sport (via Sky Sports). “Against better teams, of course, he’ll find out.”

Alexander-Arnold is likely to ignore Keane or any other pundits, instead focusing on producing the kind of performances that have made him one of the best full-backs in the world in recent years.

Trent will once again focus on club affairs, with Premier League leaders Liverpool hosting Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
