control each week For the unjustified thoughts of our writers and editors as they break down the hottest themes in this sport, and join in the conversation by tweeting us to us in @golf_com. This week, we discuss the victory of the Rory Mcilroy player championship, his viral interaction of fans, what we learned at TPC Sawgrass and more.
Rory Mcilroy removed jj spaun in a Monday Play off for Win the player championship For the second time in his career and claim his second victory in three starts this season (the first time he had two wins before April). What would you think about Mcilroy week? And with the masters approaching, has you told you anything to think this year in Augusta may be different?
Josh Sens, elderly writer (@Jossens) :: Yes. He has talked about shaky changes and he is working hard on his wedge game. I can’t say I understand what he has changed in his mechanics, but he has played a more controlled game so far this season. Augusta, of course, is another animal for mcilroy. The masters have been in his head. But a month ago or so in this space, I chose it to win the green jacket this year. I like that choice.
James Colgan, the editor of news and features (@Jamescolgan26) :: If he is walking the 18th Road to Augusta National with a two-stroke lead, I will surely believe this year may be different. Until then, I think the burden falls in Rory to tell us that he is different.
Josh Schrock, editor of associate news (@Schrock_and_Awe) :: The easy answer is yes, but I think it’s unknown. I think Mcilroy’s decision to prove to mimic the Scheffler Scottie Scheffler course management style and limited errors are clearly paid so far. He is hitting a variety of different golf shooting, especially with his wedges and short cuffs. All is well. But with Mcilroy, everything changes after it goes to Augusta National. As we saw this week with a chirp from Luke Potter, Mcilroy’s failure in masters still cuts deeply. Whether he can heal that mental wound once within the ropes in Augusta is something that no one, not even Mcilroy, does not know.
Mcilroy also made titles earlier during the week, when he had a couple fans were taken out and got one of their phones (who returned later) after one of them threw Mcilroy to hit a ball in the water during a practical round. Did Mcilroy cross the line? Or was he right to do what he did?
sense: I can understand the impulse in the heat of the moment. But he crossed the line. He is a professional. He knows that the treatment of yahoo behavior is part of his work. This includes the above erection – or blocking – the idiocy of the case around it.
He started the player week in the toilet. Then he earned $ 850,000
James Colgan
Colgan: Definitely passed a line, but I also do not worry about it. If anything, I saw funny that the thing he wants to do not talk about (Masters 2011/US Open 2024) became the story of the tournament week because of Rory’s own actions. In the same spirit, Kudos for him to disappear some demons with his performance on Sunday and Monday.
Jumper: I don’t think he crossed the line. To be honest, I don’t think we should allow hecklers to turn off to be cruel. Really really easy to say that Mcilroy should have blocked it, but I think there is something more dear to athletes who are not robotics. From the potter’s point of view, I couldn’t imagine you to cir in someone I hope to be a peer with a day. That would be as if I were going to the Super Bowl and screaming at Dan Wetzel over the column he wants to have returned. What are we doing?
TPC Sawgrass tried to be a challenging but entertaining test, adding ia annoying made a nine -nine hole much more convincing, and Justin Thomas ready set the course record The day after he shot one of the worst rounds of the week. What did you learn this week?
sense: This is not a new lesson, but old reinforced. Countries matter. Architecture buffets can argue about the merits of TPC saws until they are blue in the face. But there is no doubt that it is an excellent phase of the tournament.
Colgan: I learned that this is still a truly entertaining golf tournament, even when I miss some of Livi’s big stars. I really hope that we find a way to get some of those players in the field in the years ahead, because, while this tour is not big, it has a space between the next closer golf tournament.
Jumper: Players are a great tournament due to the combination of the course, conditions and place of the calendar it holds. I think that having it be the first type of the big type of year really sets the phase for what will come and the boys are really on the advantage because of that. But I think the field lacked Joaquin Niemann. The absence of Phil Mickelson’s world no. 1 Feel for sure. This tournament will feel even bigger when/if the game is reunited, but it is a wonderful test and has a great sense of diet.
Who won the players without winning the players?
sense: Danny Walker It is a visible choice, as he entered as a last minute complement and set up in T6. But I will go with the spaun. No matter how painful it was that play -off for him, he could take it as an increase in the trust he received in extra holes, and also as an agonizing lesson learned. Both valuable, assuming he can see it through those eyes.
Colgan: Bud Cauley and Danny Walker went from the last-second additions to nearly payment-million dollars. That’s very good!
Jumper: No Scottie Scheffler. The best player of the game did not have his best things and his attitude was poured as his three -peat search took place on Saturday. He is not clearly happy with his place where his game is after dismissal due to ravioli-portrait and has work to do to protect in Augusta. But with all seriousness, it’s Cauley bud, Danny Walker and Spaun.
In honor of the Play off the aggregate of the three player holes, which form of the play off is the best?
sense: Three holes look straight to me. Long enough to eliminate the flows, but not attracted enough to become a march of death. I wouldn’t have wanted to see the Play off -II morning go a second longer.
Colgan: It depends on the scene. Some places should be the same hole over and over. Some must be a complete aggregate, with 18 holes. TPC Sawgrass has died perfectly like a three -hole aggregate.
Jumper: If it is a great event, it must be a complete aggregate with 18 holes. If it is an event of non-manor signature, non-players, it should be an aggregate with three holes. Everything else must be sudden death.
Joaquin Niemann won Liv Golf Singapore on Sunday, giving 26-year-old Pro Two Wins in the four beginnings of Livi this season. With masters one month away, is he the most dangerous golf player Augusta plays?
sense: I dunno. I would not see a certain winner of masters called Jon Rahm.
Colgan: Well, Phil Mickelson called it the best golf player in the world, so I think it stands for something!
Jumper: Niemann must show a pulse in a major before calling it a threat of any kind. Bryson, Rahm, Hatton and Brooks. Then, maybe Niemann. PERHAPS
