Rory McIlroy may have let distractions get the best of him on Friday at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

At this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Rory McIlroy there’s a lot going on. from playing alongside the head honchos of the PGA Tour AND PIFto do it with his father and playing partner Gerry McIlroy, distractions abound.
Those distractions may have gotten the best of the four-time major champion at one point during Friday’s second round, when McIlroy set up an eagle effort with a monstrous drive and scored another Tour pro in the process.
Playing the short par-4 hole 14 in Kingsbarns on Friday, McIlroy decided to pull driver and try to reach the green well over 300 yards in front of him.
And he did it. The Northern Ireland star hit a perfect tee shot that bounced just short of the green and rolled into the putting green, creating a mid-range eagle putt.
However, one problem. The green was not clear.
Robert McIntyreplaying in the group in front of McIlroy’s, was lining up his tee shot on 14 when McIlroy’s ball hit the green and rolled off him.
And the Scottish pro didn’t seem pleased by the faux pas. MacIntyre stood up, turned and faced the tee box as the broadcasters noted his displeasure with the situation.

But all’s well that ends well. Both McIlroy, who finished the day at six under, and MacIntyre, who finished at five under, finished with birdies at the 14th.
