It was a busy week at AT&T Pebble Beach pro-am, a signature event studied with stars, where we had wild weather on an iconic golf course, the return of Scottie Scheffler, a small portion of interesting press conferences and , of course, Rory Mcilroy’s 27th PGA Tour victory. What is your main pebble beach intake?
Josh Sens, elderly writer (@Jossens)): That a short damage rest has done nothing to change Scottie Scheffler and that 2025 will be a lot like 2024. No, he did not win this week. But if his layer also behaves in the right half, we will need two hands to count his victories this season. Also, a reminder that countries matter. Those pebbleed views – and shot – never age.
James Colgan, the editor of news and features (@Jamescolgan26) :: In addition to Rory Mcilroy doing our light jobs before the masters week? In all seriousness, so impressed with the way he played this week. He spoke on Tuesday about changing his wedge access to the Kunjat fire, rather than missing in “safe places”. That worked. I think he should continue to do it.
Dylan Dothier, old writer (@dylan_Dethier) :: The PGA Tour season is officially developing! Good golf familiar names in the manager’s table. Epic Pebble Beach Visuals. And a proper champion with a wetting of a weekend. Golf fans needed it.
Sunday was the third time Mcilroy has won in his debut in the season in PGA Tour (others in 2021 and 2022 at CJ Cup), but he is still looking to complete a long large drought, which now has reached a decade. Which large country 2025 is best placed for Rory?
Colgan: Hard to see him losing in Quail Hollow if he plays like him in pebble. This course is adapted for its game, and does not contain any of the existential concerns attached to two of the four countries of the year, Augusta National and Royal Portrush.
alacrity: I like that Colgan give him this year’s PGA championship, but let’s be really wild and penetrate with prejudice of the review: with Scheffler and Schauffle coming from injuries, this is basically his year to win Everyone, right? (Consider this reverse gin.) Augusta is still well placed. He has epic history in Portrush. And Quail Hollow was built with his game specially in mind. I think it’s really just a question if he can win in Oakmont and go four for four.
Sense: Exactly and if publishers who clean the Sweepstakes House is still one thing, he will also win it. However, seriously, I said it a few months ago and will repeat it. This is the year when the latest story Inverts and Mcilroy wins the masters. His extinction of Hobgoblins will be the story of the year.
Last week’s fourth installment of TGL may have been the best edition so far, as Mcilroy’s team captured Tiger Woods’ team in a tie. As the star’s additional power helped, the estimates entered 864,000 medium viewers (which ranks third among the four matches). Did they give you the match and those ratings gave you reason for optimism, or pessimism?
Sense: I have been skeptical about the power of TGL’s residence from the beginning, and those ratings did little to distribute my doubts. Ironically, I suspect that the biggest impact of the league may not be on the simulated game, but in the green green world, where it stands to further the urgency of the conversation about the rhythm of the game. This is anecdotal, but TGL’s most popular feature seems to be the shot. Really really nice to see boys should grow and hit. Let’s hope it flows into the non-virtual game..
Colgan: Optimism! TGL has given three good rating stories in four weeks, which is three more good ratings than Liv has given in three years! There are undoubtedly there are still big questions about the long -term stay of the League taking into account the contributions it will need from players NO by the name of Tiger and Rory. But in the same sense, it is funny to think that the better the week after the week with the liv stars filling the rest of the lists.
alacrity: Optimism, but more because of the match itself (persuasive action) than evaluations (good, if they are spectacular). Everyone seemed to be leaving, saying, “Wow, that was fun!” What is the only true bar to use as a measurement. Good week TGL. Good PGA Tour Week. Just in time for the end of the football season.
Talking about Tiger, in a PGA Tour Champions oppressor, Paul Azinger said he thinks Woods can feel “forced” to join the program, “said Azinger.” I’m sure he will turn, and will be In all the benefit of these boys here who are over 50. “Do you agree with Azinger?
Sense: His health allowing, I would not be surprised when I saw Tiger to make some appearances in the over-50 county. But the “obligation” will not be the driving force. He lives to compete and I suspect he does not think he owes anything to anyone. And while I can’t see the week’s week’s schedule of the Champions Tournament that meets its competitive appetite, playing in some older diplomas along the way can make it cheap.
Colgan: I will assume that I have not heard the full extent of Azinger’s thought and giving the benefit of doubt. But only of these words is one of the worst golf thoughts I have heard in a long time. The tournament could pay money Tiger Pip every year from now to the end of time and would not yet make up the tour debt debt Tiger Tiger Woods is not forced To give PGA Tour a golf bag, let alone a few weeks a year of his time. If he chooses to play on the Champs tour, good for him, but he will be because he wants to win and compete, not because he ‘owes’ everyone in HQ Tour.
alacrity: James nailed this. Let’s hope this is taken somewhat outside the tone or context because Tiger Woods does not owe PGA Tour a single thing and yet it is still serving on its only ’cause. It is no doubt its responsibility to support the Champions Tournament.
Liv Golf’s fourth season begins this week in Saudi Arabia – complete with a new TV deal – while the Breakaway League plays as a possible union with PGA Tour continues to crawl. What is your biggest Liv Golf Golf scene or the question you want to have answered while going in 4?
Sense: It is difficult for me to share any thoughts about Liv from the thoughts of the major, the only events we have to see all the best in one place. Will Liv boys continue to appear well in them? Or pessimistic predictions about Livi’s boys who lose their advantage to begin to come true? Also, while more time wears, and fewer Livi players have ways to the biggest events, will the inconsistency spread? Any increasing evidence of the buyer’s repentance? Surrees sure that it didn’t seem like the money I bought the happiness of Jon Rahm last year. For him and the other guys who could expect a deal to have been elaborated so far, how disappointment they will feel. And tell.
Colgan: I am interested in broadcasting on TV, which seems to be running the right time under the lights in Saudi Arabia and beyond. The technique is better than you get credit for it.
alacrity: I am interested if people will be interested. Will Liv take a moment thanks to her Fox TV deal? We will approach something closer to a comparison of apple apple ratings, which should inform the conversation about the game pro -moving.
At Pebble Beach, some PGA Tour executed met with reporters to discuss the pillars of their Fan Forward initiative. While our writers in the country already broke this in detail hereWe will ask for your summary receipt: What nugget was most intriguing to you?
Sense: Tough conversation about the slow game, and the prospect of naming and avoiding delays by posting individual rhythm data. Will it become strong action into strong action? I hope so. Many other sports have managed to get the pace. Time long last time for professional golf to do the same.
Colgan: I was in that meeting (alongside Paul Dylan), and I was intrigued by the changes implied on the transmission side. On the one hand, I like the idea of the focus group that tests different broadcasts to see what fans really want. On the other hand, my social science rate says testing of focus groups may not be a cure for tournaments I have Fixed, not to say anything from what they cannot.
Dethier: Slow materials are a hot topic, and for a good reason-but I was intrigued by their acceptance that the Tour champion can take a great deal of shape as soon as this season. I’m sure we’ll never go down to a perfect solution but sounds like we’re moving in a more exciting direction
