Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has made bold predictions about Rohit Sharma as India look to come to terms with a 0-3 thrashing against New Zealand at home. He believes India’s much-awaited Test tour to Australia will be a defining moment for Rohit Sharma in the longest format of the game.
The former India chief selector has predicted that Rohit Sharma will retire from Test cricket if he fails to regain his form and perform well in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. Srikkanth feels that Rohit will only play ODIs if he fails to score Down Under.
Kris Srikkanth predicts Rohit Sharma’s Test retirement without an Australian comeback
India’s Test and ODI captain has now retired from T20I cricket and is under increasing scrutiny in Test cricket, so he must be aware of the need to do justice once again, especially with his recent woeful form with the bat in the home season and the New Zealand Test series.

Australian wickets will be a baptism for the 36-year-old, who is looking to adapt to quick wickets. However, Kris Srikkanth said Rohit Sharma’s admission of failure as a captain and player is the right move for his buyout.
The former chief selector of India noted that the Indian captain’s willingness to face criticism is a sign of a leader who deserves a comeback.
Rohit Sharma to retire from Tests if not doing well: Kris Srikkanth
Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube show, “100 per cent, you have to start thinking ahead (if India don’t do well in Australia). If Rohit Sharma doesn’t perform well, I think he himself will retire from Test cricket. He will only play ODIs. He has already retired from T20I cricket. We have to take into account that he is also getting old. He’s not getting any younger.”
The former Indian all-rounder further remarked, “At least Rohit Sharma was brave. Hats off to Rohit Sharma for admitting that he played badly and was a bad captain throughout the series. This is great stuff. This is a player’s first move to get back into rhythm. Admitting your sin is very important. This is a very important human quality. He has admitted it publicly, and it means he is on the road to recovery; this is my opinion.”
His territory is Australia: Srikkanth backs Virat Kohli to make a comeback Down Under
Also talking about Virat Kohli, who is going through a tough phase, the former Indian captain is confident of his right hand to be in his best form on the Australian soil, which is his hunting ground. He emphasized that Kohli has a lot of cricket left in him, so a year or two of bad cricket will not matter.
Srikkanth said, “I think Virat Kohli will start (his comeback) in Australia. His territory is Australia. I think that’s his strength. I think it’s too early to talk about Virat Kohli (moving on from him). I won’t accept that. Virat Kohli has a lot of time. A bad year or two of Test cricket.”
