Rohit Sharma gives up hope after crushing Adelaide Test loss

Team India captain Rohit Sharma did not mince words as he expressed his disappointment after the defeat in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Rohit Sharma declared that Australia were outclassed by his team and also admitted that they failed to capitalize on key opportunities during the match.

After a 295-run win in the series opener in Perth, India entered the day-night Test with high hopes. However, they suffered a 10-wicket defeat on Day 3 of the second Test at Adelaide on Sunday, December 8. Indian batsmen struggled in both the innings as they failed to fight back against Australia’s bowlers.

We didn’t play well enough to win the game – Rohit Sharma

Speaking after the match, Rohit Sharma said that his team did not perform well enough to win. He also added that India missed key opportunities during the match which cost them the game.

“Disappointing week for us. We didn’t play well enough to win the game and Australia played better than us. There were times in the game where we could have taken advantage of those opportunities but we didn’t and it cost us the game.” Rohit Sharma said in the post match presentation.

What we did in Perth was very special – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, who missed the series opener in Perth, said the victory in this match was quite special. Sharma expressed his excitement ahead of the upcoming Gabba Test in which they won the last tour of Australia.

“Yes, I mean absolutely, what we did in Perth was very special and we wanted to come out here and do it again, but again we know that every Test match has its challenges. We knew it was going to be tough with the pink ball, but again, like I said, you know Australia are better than us,” Rohit said.

“Yeah, we’re really looking forward to it (the Gabba Test). There’s not a lot of time in between either. You know we just want to go out there and think about what we did right, Perth, and also, you know. What we did last time we were here, hopefully every we understand the challenges of a test match and want to play well.”
