Former two-time champion retires after decision loss and an emotional message
Regis Prograis confirmed his retirement minutes after his decision loss to Conor Benn, ending a career that spanned two title runs and more than a decade at the highest level.
Prograis made the announcement in a post-fight video, presenting it as a clear next step instead of dragging it out. “Going into the next chapter of my life. My career has been about overcoming the odds stacked against me and not being afraid to chase my dreams. I hope I’ve inspired you to do the same,” he said.
The timing was direct. There was no build up to it during fight week, and no attempt to keep options open. At 37, and having absorbed punishment in recent fights, he chose to walk immediately to the final bell.
He leaves with a 30-3 record with 24 knockouts, having held titles at 140 pounds and facing most of the top names available during his run. His style is built on pressure and power, and even late in his career those traits showed in moments against Benn.
The fight itself reflects both sides of where he was. Benn got the decision, but Prograis stayed competitive over rounds and left visible damage. That last effort cemented the pattern of his career as he was willing to take risks, trade up and drive a fight deep.
Prograis’ exit closes the book without a rebuilding phase or a late-career shift. One fight, one decision, and then a clean break.
