The former 100m world champion is due to compete at the Enhanced Games, but has been fined and some old results cancelled, apart from having to wait until 2027.
Fred Curley, 2022 100m World Champion, signed with Enhanced Games in September 2025 but long before that stage he had been displaying what anti-doping police called “sloppy and somewhat reckless” behavior when it came to sticking to the rules.
The 30-year-old has now been suspended by World Athletics after suffering three setbacks in a 12-month period from May 11 to December 6, 2024. There was even a fourth failure in December 2024, but Athletics Integrity already had enough evidence to issue a ban and he will not be able to return to the sport until August 11.
With the Enhanced Games scheduled for May in Las Vegas, he may not care about the ban. However, he was ordered to pay World Athletics £3,000 in legal fees and other costs and his results between 6 December 2024 and 12 August 2025 were disqualified.
As well as his world title in Eugene in 2022, he won two world golds in the 4x100m in Doha 2019 and Budapest 2023, while winning silver at the 2021 Olympics and bronze in Paris 2024.
“Unfortunately, complex doping substances can only be detected in an athlete’s sample days or even hours after ingestion,” said Brett Clothier, Head of Athletics Integrity.
“Anti-doping organizations must be able to test athletes without warning on a day and time of our choosing, otherwise anti-doping programs will not work and doping will easily escape detection. Location rules are therefore fundamental to the integrity of the sport and must be respected.
“AAU will continue to strictly enforce venue requirements to protect the right of all athletes to compete cleanly.”
Kerley did not dispute the June 13 failure in Munich, Germany, but blamed technical problems with the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s Athlete Connect app on a doping control officer for the missed tests on May 11 at his home in Miami, Florida, and at an apartment in West Hollywood, California, on December 6-7.
