Real Madrid intends to make room for a potential summer signing Alphonso Davies offloading current left-back Fran Garcia, according to reports in Spain.
Davies is set to become a free agent when his contract with Bayern Munich expires in the summer, and will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club from January 1. Negotiations between the Canada international and the Bundesliga giants have so far failed to reach an agreement, with the parties at odds over wages.
SPORT report that Davies he already has a ‘verbal agreement’ with Madrid that would guarantee him the global salary he wants. Between a proposed fee and the signing bonus the club could afford to pay him so there was no transfer fee, Davies could command the equivalent of €18m per season. Bayern’s best offer is believed to be €14 million.
But for Davies to arrive, Madrid are likely to have to make room in their squad: current left-back Fran Garcia, who acts primarily as a back-up for Ferland Mendy, the most solid player in the defence, who is expected to be available
It is claimed that the 15-time Champions League winners would be willing to listen to offers of between €15m and €20m for Garcia, who turned 25 at the start of this season and joined the ranks of Madrid more than a decade ago.
Madrid’s alleged deal with Davies was recently denied by the player’s agentbut club sources still “assure” that there is one.
The subject that Madrid He could have rival interest from Barcelona, with current Barcelona manager Hansi Flick a factor, having given Davies his chance at Bayern in 2019. Barca would almost certainly not be able to compete financially given the its continuing limitations.
As for Garcia, he made just one first-team appearance before a loan spell and then a permanent move to Rayo Vallecano in 2020, before Madrid triggered a €5m buy-back clause three years later. He has made 44 appearances and counting since returning.
