Real Madrid learns the chronology of the return from the ACL injury

Real Madrid do not expect Eder Militao to return from his ACL injury for another nine months, according to reports in Spain.

The central suffered another ACL tear earlier this monthhaving sustained the same problem last season. It took seven months to recover the first time, but it is unlikely he will be available again in 2024/25.

A statement from Madrid said: “Our player Eder Militao has undergone successful surgery today for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The operation was carried out by Dr Manuel Leyes, under the supervision of the Medical Services of Real Madrid.

“Militao will begin its recovery process in the coming days.”

Spanish publication AS they say a quick comeback is not expected from the 26-year-old, with the club intending for Militao to return in time for pre-season in 2025.

The injury to the former Sao Paulo and Porto star has further restricted the options available to coach Carlo Ancelotti. David Alaba is still recovering from an ACL problem, having not played since December 2023.

Los Blancos failed to sign a new centre-back in the summer after losing out to Manchester United for Leny Yoro, leaving Madrid without alternatives. Antonio Rudiger is fit and playing regularly and youngster Raul Asencio replaced Militao during the 4-0 crushing of Osasuna before the international break in November. Jesús Vallejo is regaining squad numbers, having made just one substitute appearance in La Liga despite injuries.

Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is also an option, having manned the back during Madrid’s run to Champions League glory last season.

Former club captain Nacho Fernández has already ruled out a return to his old club, while his ex-boss Sergio Ramos has been overlooked as a potential option despite speculation suggesting he could return to the Bernabéu.

The current champions of Spain and Europe have others injury concerns before Sunday’s trip to Leganés. Tchouameni and Lucas Vazquez are expected to miss out, while Dani Carvajal is a long-term absentee. There are further doubts over the availability of Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo.
