Real Madrid in talks over a surprise cash injection in January

Serie A side Como have opened talks with Real Madrid to buy them all transfer clauses related to midfielder Nico Paz, 20, according to a report.

Madrid academy product Paz made the €6m (£5.1m) switch to Como in the summer and has established himself as one of Serie A’s best youngsters, racking up five goals and four assists in a run of form that earned him an inaugural call-up to the Argentine national team last October.

Madrid they have a buy-back clause to re-sign Paz, while they also have the option to match any bid received for the 20-year-old and are entitled to a percentage of any future transfers, but Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Como is looking to change that.

Como, backed by Italy’s richest owners, are looking to reach an agreement with Madrid to remove all of their clauses relating to Paz. They are said to be willing to pay up to €20m (£16.9m) to remove Madrid’s grip on Paz’s future.

Convincing Madrid to accept their offer could be difficult, however, as manager Carlo Ancelotti has already done he spoke openly of his interest in Paz. He described the midfielder as “the future of Real Madrid” and even referred to his time at Como as “a year of training away from the club”.

Cesc Fàbregas, the Como coach, has acknowledged the existence of Madrid’s buy-back clause, but has recently suggested that the Italian side have far more control over the situation than that may suggest.

“There is a specific buy-back clause for Nico Paz for Real Madrid, but he is a Como player,” Fabregas said. “If Como doesn’t plan to sell Nico, it won’t happen. We have an agreement with Nico. It’s impossible for us to think about selling Nico Paz.”
