Héctor Bellerín’s second-half equalizer salvaged a vital point for Real Betis against Celta Vigo in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
The La Liga clash saw fifth-placed Real Betis host sixth-placed Celta Vigo at Estadio La Cartuja in Seville. Both teams were looking for crucial points in their European qualification aspirations. Real Betis entered the match in mixed form, while Celta Vigo looked to capitalize on recent results.
Celta de Vigo started strongly and surprised the locals with an opening goal. Ferran Jutglà scored the first goal in the 4th minute. The quick strike came from an assist by Oscar Mingueza, which put Celta ahead.
Real Betis pushed for an immediate response after the setback. They controlled possession and created several half chances in their effort to equalize. Celta’s defense, however, remained firm in the face of pressure from the locals.
Betis continued to press during the first half, registering many shots. Despite his efforts, Celta goalkeeper Ionuț Radu made crucial saves. It preserved Celta’s narrow lead, allowing the visitors to go into the break with their slender advantage intact.
Real Betis needed to turn their territorial dominance into goals in the second half. Manager Manuel Pellegrini probably urged a more clinical finish from his squad. Celta Vigo, on the other hand, wanted to maintain their defensive form and threaten on the counterattack.
Real Betis came out energetic after the break, eager to find an advance. Just four minutes into the second half, Héctor Bellerín equalized the score. In the 49th minute, after an assist from Aitor Ruibal, the local crowd was fired up.
The tie changed the momentum, leading to a more open game. Substitutions followed, with Betis bringing on F. López and A. Núñez in the 58th minute. Physicality also increased, with a yellow card for Cucho Hernández in the 61st minute for Real Betis.
M. Alonso of Celta de Vigo was then booked in the 62nd minute. Both teams made more changes, looking for the winning goal, but neither found the decisive touch. The game became increasingly messy, punctuated by a flurry of late yellow cards.
Oscar Mingueza was booked in the 82nd minute by Celta. Antony and Ilaix Moriba also saw yellow cards in stoppage time, reflecting the intensity of the game as time ran out.
Real Betis dominated statistically, recording a total of 19 shots against Celta Vigo’s 7. Their expected goals (xG) stood at 1.49 against Celta’s 0.56. Goalkeeper Ionuț Radu was Celta’s best player, with five vital saves.
The 1-1 draw leaves Real Betis in fifth place with 43 points, while Celta Vigo remains sixth with 40 points. This hard-fought point keeps both teams in the hunt for European qualification, with plenty to play for in the League.
