Ravindra Jadeja’s retention is in doubt as a shocking update emerged from the CSK camp

In a shocking development, the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is no longer a reliable catch for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.

Ravindra Jadeja has been a key player for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for over a decade and it comes as a big surprise as he has put in numerous match-winning performances.

Ravindra Jadeja joined Chennai Super Kings in 2012

Jadeja, who played a key role in Rajasthan Royals’ IPL triumph in 2008, was bought by Chennai Super Kings in the 2012 IPL player auction for $2 million, making him the most expensive player that year.

He was retained by the franchise for the next few years and paid handsomely. Jadeja was forced to shift bases to Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017 when CSK was suspended.

When Chennai Super Kings returned to the league, Jadeja was locked in a salary of INR 7 crore – till IPL 2021. Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction, he was the franchise’s number one pick for INR 16 crore and has been paid the same since then.

Ravindra Jadeja appointed CSK captain in IPL 2022

In 2022, MS Dhoni handed over the CSK captaincy to Jadeja just before the season and the all-rounder was the third person to be named CSK captain after Dhoni and Suresh Raina.

Jadeja has been under a lot of pressure since taking over as captain and has failed to perform as a captain and all-rounder. Midway through the season, Jadeja stepped down as captain, Dhoni resumed his role, and he was ruled out of IPL 2022 with a rib injury.

There were rumors of a rift between Jadeja and CSK after the 2022 season, but everything was sorted before IPL 2023 and the all-rounder helped the franchise win its fifth IPL title with his heroics in the final against Gujarat Titans.

Ravindra Jadeja’s future at CSK is in jeopardy despite his past success

As the deadline for submitting the list of retained and released players approaches (October 31), there are several reports regarding CSK’s possible retention.

Most of the reports have CSK’s MS Dhoni (in the open category), Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha PathiranaShivam Dube and Devon ConwayJadeja being the main catch.

But the latest report tells a different story. According to RevSportz, Jadeja is not a sure fire keeper for Chennai Super Kings and he is likely to go for the mega auction.

If the CSK franchise decides against retaining Jadeja, they can still acquire him using the Right to Match option in the mega auction.

In total, Jadeja scored 2053 runs and scored 142 wickets for Chennai Super Kings. The 35-year-old recently retired from T20Is after a T20 World Cup campaign where he scored 35 runs and just one wicket.
