The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is set to illuminate India and Sri Lanka From February 7 to March 8, there is a large field of 20 teams in 55 matches. The tournament has a unique twist this year as Scotland enter and replace Group C at the last minute. Bangladesh then the latter withdrew due to venue differences with the ICC.
Ravichandran Ashwin picks player to watch out for Scotland in T20 World Cup 2026
Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin officially designated the location of Scotland Brandon McMullen As his main “player to watch” for the 2026 edition. Speaking on the show Ash ki Baat, Ashwin mentioned that he has been following the all-rounder since his performance against Australia in the previous World Cup. Ashwin shared his high praise for the 25-year-old’s ability to close the innings while maintaining a high strike rate:
“He’s got Brandon McMullen. Brandon McMullen played in the last World Cup and the Scotland game with Australia, he scored a brilliant 50. And since then he’s been one of the main players. I’ve been watching him. He’s a player to watch out for me.” Ashwin said.

Scotland’s T20 World Cup 2026 strategy in India
Ashwin believes that despite ’11th hour’ entries, Scotland have a dangerous batting core that can surprise the big powers. While he admitted their bowling attack could be “restrictive”, he highlighted the technical strength of the senior players, praising them in particular. Michael Jones and captain Richie Berrington for his ability to play clinical, routine shots. Breaking down the team’s strengths, Ashwin said:
“I think Scotland are a good T20 team. They have some bowling skills… but they have top-class batting. Richie Berrington and Michael Jones, especially Jones is a top-class player who bowls really hard. He’s definitely someone you can expect top-class batting.” Ashwin concluded.
