Pundit says it’s time for Patrick Bamford to ‘knock on’ Daniel Farke’s door

Former Leeds United defender Jon Newsome believes Patrick Bamford will be ‘knocking on the door’ of Daniel Farke very soon.

Bamford has enjoyed some incredible displays during his time as a Leeds player, including scoring 16 goals to launch them to promotion to the Premier League in 2019/20, followed by 17 goals in 38 top-flight appearances this season following

But more recently, the former Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has endured more injury struggles than centre-backs.

This has seen Bamford fall down the pecking order at Elland Road and this season, he has played just 47 minutes in five substitute appearances in the Championship, with his only start coming in the EFL Cup.

And this despite Leeds having to slot in attacking midfielder Joel Piroe and young Spaniard Mateo Joseph as strikers this season, scoring just six goals together.

Despite all his struggles, Bamford enjoyed a run of seven goals in 10 Championship games between January and March this year.

This perhaps highlights that the 31-year-old could still have a role to play for the Whites if Farke decides to drop him.

And with Leeds held to a 0-0 draw at Bristol City on Saturday despite outscoring their hosts 17-4, Bamford probably has every right to wait longer than the five minutes he saw on the field.

According to Newsome, Bamford may soon be asking serious questions of Farke and the lack of opportunities the German is giving him.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live (via Leeds United news): “I don’t know, I think at some point he’s definitely going to be banging on the gaffer’s door asking, ‘When does he get the chance?'”

For all their centre-forward problems, Leeds remain third in the Championship table, level on points with Burnley in second.

Next up for the Yorkshire side is a home draw against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
