The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 Due to the country’s worsening fuel crisis and ongoing security concerns, all matches will be played behind closed doors under unprecedented conditions. According to the media, this Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) opted for a scaled-down approach, limiting venues and eliminating public participation to ensure the tournament could continue uninterrupted.
PSL 2026 is restricted to two cities
Originally planned as a multi-city event covering Multan, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore, the tournament will now be held only in Karachi and Lahore. This decision significantly reduces travel requirements and operating costs at a time when fuel availability is a major concern nationwide.
The PCB also canceled the opening ceremony, which was aimed at conserving resources and avoiding unnecessary logistical strain. Matches will be played in empty stadiums, a stark contrast to the electric atmosphere usually associated with the PSL.
Global tension leads to internal crisis
The changes come in response to disruptions in global oil supplies as a result of the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran. Geopolitical tensions have directly affected Pakistan’s fuel reserves, leading to widespread shortages and strict government measures to control consumption.
Authorities have imposed restrictions on public movement, including temporary school closures, extended holidays around holidays and work-from-home rules for many sectors. These steps are part of a broader effort to manage limited fuel supplies and maintain essential services.

The revised logistics reshape the original plan
According to the initial schedule, 15 matches were scheduled at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and 11 matches at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Faisalabad, Karachi and Multan were also scheduled to host multiple matches throughout the tournament. The revised plan concentrates all facilities in Karachi and Lahore, eliminating several of these locations. This arrangement not only facilitates logistics but also ensures better coordination of resources such as fuel, security and transport.
The format of the tournament remains unchanged, with each of the six teams playing 10 league games. The top four finishers will advance to the playoffs, which include Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and the final. PSL 2026 final will still be held in Lahore on May 3, while May 4 has been kept as a reserve day. Even though the fans are not in the stadium, the PCB is working on strong television and digital viewership to maintain the global appeal of the league.
