Pros in retirement wins the start of surprise, refuses control over the ‘principle’

Two and a half years ago, Victor Dubuisson, at the age of 33, withdrew from Pro Golf. He left as a twice winner of the World DP of Tour and Ryder Cupper, winning 2 1/2 points and helping Europe overpower Americans in Gleneagles.

The Frenchman announced his surprise retirement in December 2023 between a season in which he played only eight events, though he withdrew after his last two round. He had planned to qualify for Liv Golf for the 2024 season, but eventually withdrew his name from consideration.

Instead, he retired.

He told the French newspaper Team: “Loneliness had become extremely heavy.”

He planned to follow the training.

“I started from nothing, so I’m extremely happy with what I did. I see myself as a little kid with my little bag and my decaton clubs,” he said Team. “I was not at all predestined to have this career. Many people would say I could have done more and that I could have been world No. 1. But my strength is enjoying what I had. I am happy with that.

So you can understand why it was somewhat startling when Dubuisson appeared in the Biarritz Cup last week, a tour in Biarritz, France, in Tour Alps, a European development circuit.

And he won. He fired rounds of 62, 65 and 61 to finish 19 under and eventually won in a play off, descending Jorge Maicas, Spain with a bird in the second hole of Play off.

However, Maicas did not have to choose second place money. By Tour Alps Website“In a gesture of personal principle,” Dubuisson rejected his salary.

Instead, that control (about $ 9,000 US currency) was given to Maicas.

DUBUISSON did not mention the money in a brief interview at Tour Alps website, But he took an exception to a sponsor at the event and expressed his gratitude to Gerald Bouhourd, President of the C&S Partners, who sponsored the event.

“I am very happy, and especially satisfied for Gerald,” Said DUBUISSON. “He is the sponsor of the tournament title and the one who invited me to play this week. We met through golf and developed a strong friendship. I admire how he supports young players and professionals – this has created a special link between us. It was a brilliant week. ”

Duduson earned about $ 11.9 million in his World Tour DP career and just over $ 1 million in the 29 beginnings of PGA Tour’s career.
