Bud Cauley violating the Lucas Glover ball in the player championship on Sunday.
Nbc
All eyes were in Rory Mcilroy Sunday evening in the climatic moments of Championship.
Those of the fans in the country. Those of the fans at home. Even those of some of the other Mcilroy competitors.
Among them: Bud cauleywho played in the last trio along with Lucas Glover and Jj Spaun. Sunday was not cauley’s day. At the time he arrived at the PAR-5 16 hole, he was three for his round, who had fallen back to eight under the week-many far away to be a serious threat, especially after every real chance for an eagle in 16 steamed when he withdrew his second shot in Grabby Rough from Green.
Then came another hiccup.
While Cauley was trying to Green 16 to play his third shot, his attention left in the climb Par-3 17th Where Mcilroy – then the leader from one – was preparing to hit his goal on the iconic island of Green. Looking at his right, Cauley observed Mcilroy’s shot land, just left from the flag and rotated 11 meters below the hole, strong against the collar. What cauley did not see, however, was other Top, Glover’s that, who was directly on the cauley trail – and, yes, soon quite directly UNDER Cauley’s right foot.
In a conceit that you don’t often see at this level of play, Cauley had violated the ball of his game partner, a moment captured by NBC cameras and who probably left many viewers at home asking, Uhh… But now?
Not all golf rules are simple, but how to continue when your ball is moved from an external impact is quite direct.
If your ball is moved by such force as an animal, spectator or, say your game partner at Last round of player championshipThere is no penalty for anyone. Simply replace the ball as close as possible with its original location and play. (If a ball is moved by one natural Strength, such as wind, water or gravity, you usually play the ball from its new location without a penalty.)
If Cauley withdrew from the gaffe, it would not show.
He first made him in 16 years old, then filled his shoot at 17 to 6 meters and made birds. After another level in the PAR-4 house hole, Cauley signed for a two-on 74-not the conclusion he wanted but still a memorable week for The 251st rank player in the world who had made only one player cut into four previous attempts.
“I just couldn’t go,” he said after his round. “I would follow a good hole with a bad hole, and as I said earlier, just unfortunately a lot of mistakes.”
And a genuine mistake.
