Keyshawn Davis has agreed to challenge IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins for his title in March 2026. The two met at today’s Teofimo Lopez vs. Meet Shakur press conference in New York City.
Keyshawn’s switch flips instantly
Hitchins got in Keyshawn’s face, reminding him of how he beat him during sparring they had years ago. At first, Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) was friendly and easygoing, but something snapped inside him when Hitchins started shying away from the media and bringing up their sparring.
It was different Keyshawn as he showed flashes of anger and took over. Looking at him, you could tell he was in full trigger mode, promising to fight Richardson next and take his IBF 140lb title from him in 2026.
Flashbacks to the Berinchyk Blowup
It was the same look he had when he confronted WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk at their last press conference, accusing him of sending a box of bananas to his hotel room. Keyshawn looked set for a 72-hour psych hit at Bellvue. He snapped. It got to the point where he looked ready to go wild on Richardson.
Hitchins suddenly backed away
Hitchins backed off completely when Keyhshawn lost to him. You could see the change. He went from trash talking to holding back: ‘What have I gotten myself into?’ I unleashed something in Keyshawn that he didn’t want to deal with.
“We’re going to fight next year because he’s the champion. I’m taking your belt because you know you’re no better than me in March. Hey, you can’t take a punch. I promise you can’t take a punch,” Keyshawn Davis told IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins. today’s face in New York.
