It has been a historic week in Pro Golf.
Thursday morning, Jake knapp He became only the 15th player who sometimes broke 60 in a round, shooting 59 on the opening day in Clasic Cogizant. And on Friday morning, halfway around the world, Dale Whitnell became the fourth player in the history of golf who made two axes … in a single round.
Yes, Dale Whitnell waited for 153 professional beginnings before receiving the first ACE of his Pro Golf career. But he waited less than 12 holes in front of his second.
Friday morning at South African open championshipWhitnell made an ACE in par-3 2, a courtyard 178 down a hill-ending an extension of about 153 professional starles, and 460 rounds of pro-played, without a hole in one in competition. The monkey was out of the back, and it was time to celebrate.
“It was crazy,” he said later in a course interview with Dp Tour World. “I don’t have (I don’t have) one for a few years now. The first was in the 2nd hole, a par-3, 178 7-Herkuri, straight down the flag, and inside.”
But then, while Whitnell turned nine back, he faced one shot in another par-3, even smaller, the 12th hole, a 128-Oborri. With a 58 -degree wedge in his hand, he did what he called another “strong rhythm” in the ball, and looked as he grew only beyond the hole, getting up in the air and descending back into the hole in the bounce.
“I’m still playing so adrenaline is still going,” he said. “Enjoying it. Five under three are a pretty nice start. Eight so far today is pretty strong today. “
Whitnell shot a 93-year-old on Friday, throwing herself close to the right line to ease within 10 of the first. He will have two long days in front of him in South Africa to make a move up to the leader, but even if this weekend ends in a victory, there is little doubt that this week’s story will start with Friday’s round forever, and the Ace’s couple he handed over.
