Prithvi Shaw’s arrogance exposed! Batter ignored the advice of Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly, Ponting in the face of career crisis

The former BCCI selector criticized Prithvi Shaw for not taking advice from cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Ricky Ponting. Notably, Prithvi Shaw is missing from the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise for the first time in eight years of his professional cricket career.

Prithvi made a sensational start to his Test career by scoring a century on debut six years ago. However, his fortunes changed with a significant decline in his performance and fitness. He was released by Delhi Capitals and went unsold not once but twice in the IPL 2025 mega auction in Saudi Arabia.

Prithvi Shaw had two disappointing seasons with Delhi Capitals, scoring 106 and 198 runs in eight games in 2023 and 2024, with just one half-century. The franchise bought him for Rs 7.5 crore. Overall, Shaw scored 1,892 runs at a strike rate of 147.46 in 79 IPL matches, including 14 half-centuries.

Are these legends stupid? – Former BCCI Selector

The former BCCI selector accused Prithvi Shaw of ignoring Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting and Rahul Dravid. The selector said Shaw had the opportunity to interact with these seniors during his stint with Delhi Capitals. Shaw failed to make any progress, the selector said.

“Prithvi has been to Delhi capitals. In DC itself, he had a chance to interact with U-19 India coach Ricky Ponting, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly,” the former BCCI selector told PTI on condition of anonymity.

“It’s an open secret in Mumbai cricket that Tendulkar has also spoken to him. Are these legends stupid? Do you see any change in him? Even if there is, it’s not obvious,” he said.

Prithvi Shaw Dropped From Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy Squad Due To Fitness Issues

There is no dearth of cricketing talent in India, but discipline and self-control are crucial for success. Sachin Tendulkar’s friend Vinod Kambli was often considered more naturally gifted. However, their careers followed very different trajectories. Kambli ended his career without realizing his talent.

Prithvi is headed for the same fate as Kambli, with concerns about poor fitness and discipline issues. He was recently dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad due to high body fat percentage and lack of fitness. However, Shaw was included in the squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Once regarded as the future of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw is currently facing a difficult phase in his career. After being released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, Shaw set his base price at ₹75 lakh but failed to attract bids from franchises and went unsold at the auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The right-handed batsman is currently representing Mumbai in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored 33 runs off 20 balls in the opening match against Goa. Mumbai will next face Maharashtra on Wednesday, November 27. Shaw will try to prove himself with runs in the upcoming match.
