Victory secured and less important questions addressed, the American side was nearing the end of the winner’s press conference on Sunday in Presidents Cup when anyone eager to answer was asked about the party’s plans—and Tony Finau answered this way:
“In the wise words of Travis Kelce,” he began, referring to Kansas City Chiefs tight end …
“You have to fight…
“For your right…
“To celebrate,” Finau shouted, referring to it The line of Kelce in February at the Super Bowl (which referred to the Beastie Boys).
There was only one concern:
How long could they fight? The bus ride from Royal Montreal to the team hotel was about 45 minutes, Kevin Kisner said. The visas would be lost somewhere along the streets of Montreal. But disaster, along with prudence, was averted.
A DJ played and Jim Furyk freestyle for eminem.
Seriously. Here’s the story told by Kisner, one of the U.S. vice captains, on the recent “The Smylie Show” podcast (which you can listen in full here). The host of the show, Smiley Kaufmanalso an analyst on NBC’s Presidents Cup broadcast, had asked Kisner about the details of the celebration, and began this back-and-forth:
“One of my favorite parts of the party,” Kisner said on the podcast, “is obviously you go back to the team room on the course, everybody’s celebrating, raising their canes, dancing, the music, but then you have to pack it all up your stuff. get on a bus back to the hotel where the big party is. But the bus ride is like 45 minutes. So you’re kind of worried…”
Asked Kaufman, “Is there a bathroom?”
Kisner replied, “There’s a bathroom, but you’re also worried about the faucets falling off, aren’t you? Should we sit on the bus? Well, if anywhere was the biggest party, it was the bus, and it was incredible because we basically had a DJ at the front of the bus, we were playing full blast music, we got a police escort, and at the end, Jim, we we let Jim – everyone has to pick a song, right, and then you get up and sing it.
“At the end, Jim Furyk picks up ‘Lose Yourself’ by Eminem, pulls up his hood and freestyles down the hall and runs into five people on the bus as we retreat to the hotel.”
Kaufman said: “This is epic. … I think nothing else needs to be said. …
“‘Lose Yourself’ by Jim Furyk, boy, do I have to see that music video, hood up by Jim.”
Indeed.
