Power Rankings: The best teams in Europe


Fortunately, the September international break is now behind us, so last week we got back to enjoying club football.

And what a week of club football it was.

There were local derbies, record wins and stunning goals scored across Europe as UEFA Champions League returned

Here are our picks for the ten best teams in Europe after week four of the 2024/25 campaign.

Not quite, but they still have the individual quality to win most football games.

Despite not playing particularly well, Los Blancos have won their last three games in all competitions, including a crucial Champions League clash with Stuttgart in midweek.

After watching them record their biggest ever UEFA Champions League win in front of a raucous Parkhead crowd, we had Celtic on that list.

The emphatic 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava was utterly impressive, as was their national form.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have won all five of their Scottish Premiership games so far, scoring 14 goals without reply in the process. It’s a very good form.

Atlético de Madrid made a big splash in the summer transfer market and, for now, it’s paying dividends.

After finally losing a football match before the international break, to RB Leipzig if you were wondering, Bayer Leverkusen have been determined to start another unbeaten run in recent weeks.

Xabi Alonso’s side followed up a 4-1 win at Hoffenheim with an even more eye-catching 4-0 win at Feyenoord in the Champions League in midweek.

Leverkusen means business.

Against a PSV Eindhoven side that had scored 20 goals in five Eredivisie games in 2024/25, Thiago Motta’s new look Juventus they faced their biggest test yet on Tuesday evening.

And they passed with flying colours.

The 3-1 win at the Allianz Stadium, inspired by the new number ten Kenan Yildizit shows that Juve can be good enough to compete again in the latter stages of the Champions League.

Had Eric Garcia not received his marching orders within the first 10 minutes of their clash with Monaco on Thursday, it is likely Barcelona will be at the top of the leaderboard this week.

That red card eventually cost Barca their 100% record at the start of the new campaign, with Monaco winning 2-1 at an even more impressive Stade Louis II.

Five games = five wins.

Paris Saint-Germain have been on cruise control in Ligue 1, but they certainly made themselves work for their first Champions League win with Girona.

Viktor Gyokeres has scored nine goals in six games for Sporting CP.

No wonder they have won every Portugal League and Champions League game they have played so far.

Expect a number of Premier League clubs to be in January for the talented forward.

Man City are out of top spot this week thanks to a 0-0 draw with Inter in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Bayern Munich have scored 15 goals since the international break.

Yes, 15 goals in two games.

A 6-1 win over Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga was followed by an outrageous 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. It’s a completely ridiculous sentence.

They are back to their prime.
