Tottenham Manager Ange Postecoglou has explained how he is motivating his players to try and end the club’s incredible 16-year trophy drought ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup clash against Coventry City.
Spurs have not won any silverware since the 2008 League Cup final, although there have been a few blips in the last decade and a half, most notably the Champions League final defeat in 2019 against Liverpool.
Postecoglou, however, insists he does not see it as a burden, but an opportunity, and in fact it made the job very attractive to him as he would love to be the one to end that trophy drought.
It seems the Australian tactician is also using it to motivate the Tottenham players, so they don’t feel too much pressure themselves.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of the start of the club’s Carabao Cup campaign, Postecoglou spoke positively of the challenge of finally bringing silverware to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Postecoglou on ending Tottenham’s trophy drought
“The t-word, you can try to ignore it… but it’s reality, it’s a fact, you just have to face it,” Postecoglou told reporters.
“What I keep telling the guys is what a great opportunity. Imagine you guys doing it. That was the biggest draw for me to come here.
“I get it, it’s the Premier League, everyone wants to be here, it’s a big club, they reward you financially… but the biggest tick for me was this one. Imagine I did it. Imagine that happen. I think it’s something I could reflect on quite fondly.
“I don’t see it as a burden, but an opportunity.”
It will be interesting to see if this mentality works for THFC, who have not had the best start to the season and will be desperate to bounce back from the disappointment of losing 1-0 at home to Arsenal in the North London Derby from last weekend. .
