Marc Marquez changed his stance as Valentino Rossi began to struggle in MotoGP.
Marquez will not be satisfied with beating Rossi’s records.Said ex-rival Pol Espargaro, who knows him closely.
His countryman spoke in Matt Oxley’s Marc The Magnificent book about how Rossi’s attitude towards riding changed the moment he started fighting in MotoGP in 2013.
“It was funny, because when Marc was fighting with me in Moto2, he was doing these things to a lot of riders, that brutality, he was taking guys out,” he said. I remember, Casey (Stoner), Valentino (Rossi), (Jorge) Lorenzo and other MotoGP guys.
“When asked about Marquez, they didn’t complain (about the ride). Everyone said: ‘This is racing! Then, when Marc jumped to MotoGP, he started doing the same things because he was told by the big guys that what he was doing (in Moto 2) wasn’t bad.’
“Then when he started fighting with the big guys, they started complaining, but it was too late! We finally accepted that he was riding and if you want to fight with him, you should too.”
Rossi’s ‘favourite’ battle was Jorge Lorenzo.And even if they put on a show for the fans, it’s not always exactly what they remember.
