Player ratings like Salah star in a resounding victory

West Ham United suffered a 5-0 thrashing at home to runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Only 12 places separate the two clubs of the Premier League table but there was a yawning gulf in quality that showed across the vast expanse of grass at the London Stadium.

Liverpool started fast and barely slowed down after that. Mohamed Salah Had the first chance of the game on six minutes only to be denied by Alphonse Areola. Curtis Jones and Luis Diaz were also denied by the overworked Frenchman before Liverpool’s Colombian star broke the deadlock on the hour mark.

Diaz was first to his own loose pass, a sign of the feverish hunger pouring into Arne Slot’s counters, and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Salah did it all West Ham backline during another imperious outing. The Liverpool talisman used both Konstantinos Mavropanos and Max Kilman as he forced the ball onto Cody Gakpo’s run in the 40th minute. The Hammers had no time to escape down the London Stadium tunnel before Salah found himself the background of the network.

Trent Alexander-Arnold ensured it Liverpool picked up where they left off, netting a fourth for the visitors within the first ten minutes of the restart.

West Ham blew in a second half that Liverpool largely used as a warm-up exercise ahead of the visit of Manchester United next week. However, the home side could not reduce the deficit and Diogo Jota extended the margin to five goals in the 84th minute, giving Liverpool a second 5-0 win against West Ham of the season.
