Player ratings as Haaland misses penalty in frustrating draw

Manchester City’s quest to end their miserable run of form continues after a 1-1 draw at Everton on Christmas Day left them with just one win in their last 13 games in all competitions.

City got off to a flying start and took a deserved lead through Bernardo Silva in the 14th minute, with the Portugal international collecting a clever pass from Jeremy Doku and slotting the ball into the back of the net thanks to a deflection by Jarrad Branthwaite.

Silva should have had a second and City’s disintegration was punished in the first half when Iliman Ndiaye sent an instinctive volley – Everton’s first touch in the City box – which was fired into the corner superior to tie things up at the break.

Jordan Pickford referred to his trusty water bottle for instructions to save an Erling Haaland penalty shortly after the restart. The striker headed home a rebound that eventually reached him, only to see the offside flag raised immediately and extend City’s frustrations.
