I240 shackles represent a thoughtful evolution of one of the most reliable iron families in Golf. I recently got a chance to try them in Ping examination of basicsAnd it didn’t take long for them to realize that these are something different. As someone who loved I230 and spent a lot of rounds playing I210s, I didn’t think there was so much room for improvement … But I was wrong.
With my first swing, I immediately saw (and felt) the difference. I240 started above, rolled more, felt softer, and looked softer than I230. And I really liked my i230. But i240 gave me the rare ”Well, I’m about to put these in the bag now“A kind of moment. This doesn’t happen often.
Let’s dig why with five things you need to know, as well as my thoughts after testing them.
Inside the ping by trying the basics
One of the things I want more to work with ping is getting to try and adapt the clubs where the magic occurs, at the ping trial bases in Phoenix. Is not just a test structure; Is the dream of a Nerd golf. You are hitting shots with the latest equipment in the real terrain, side by side with the clubs you already trust. You are working with mounts who helped develop product and understand it to another level. Everyone’s adaptation I made there feels like a master class.
For this test, I brought my gamer i230s to be directly compared against new I240s. It took no more than a few shakes to see that Ping had found a new gear for the girlfriend I. the highest departure. More rotation. Better sound. Stronger distribution. And most importantly, more durability throughout the table. This is the type of performance change that you can feel and adjust. When the data supports what your hands are showing you, this is when you know that a club is special.
This is what makes this work fun. When I see something like I240 that I know will help many different players, whether they come from I210s, I230s, or even a compact blade, it makes me excited to take this iron before more players.
It looks like a blade. Plays as a player of the game.
To address, I240 immediately reminded me I210, a long favorite of Ping staff Victor Hovland and ping staff in alike. The top line is clean and compact, the compensation is minimal, and the overall formation is the classic iron of ping players. But there is also a modern advantage. It feels like I210 and the project had a baby.

There is a visible technology in the cavity, but it does not distract. On the contrary, it gives the club a quiet faith. Glossy hydropearl 2.0 lines and clean lines raise the look without complicating anything.
Under the hood: What makes i240 TIC?
Ping calls this a real iron of the back player, and they nailed that balance between accuracy and forgiveness. The symbol inside the cavity is lighter than I230 by 8.5 grams, which allowed the ping engineers to shift the weight and repositioning of the lower CG in the head. This is a great reason why I saw higher starting and more stable rotation numbers.
Even as a lower player, with a lower, one-digit rotation, I was surprised how movable the new I240 were. Also impressive: they never felt like they were “helping” a lot. The cuffs still allow me to form shots and control trajectories, but in mistakes, forgiveness was immediately visible.
One thing I kept returning was the consistency of the ball speed and the distant distribution compared to my I230. This is where this iron really is separated. Yes, it is more forgiving, but the stamina shot at the hit is what builds confidence to give it a little more when you need it.
And the interaction of the terrain? Way better than I expected. Softer, cleaner and less “grabby” than I230. This only redesigned with a rounded lead advantage and many movable swelling just slips across the ground.

Built with the best in mind
Ping worked closely with their tour staff To call this inside. They updated the face with fewer wider grooves, to give the best players more rotation, something that tournaments specially sought. Neither I’m complaining. More rotation? Yes, please.

This cooperation is being repaid. More I240 groups are appearing in professional bags each week, which speaks volumes. It is the iron of a player who does not sacrifice forgiveness. AND For those of us who still want control and workability Without giving up on forgiveness and starting? Is a combination of dreams.
For whom it is
If you played I210 or I230, this is the natural evolution on your ping journey, and a great update. Whether you are a one -digit handicapper or a stable ball striker you are looking for a little more help and much more consistency, the I240 should be on your radar.
They are also ideal for the player who loves the appearance and feeling of a blade, but appreciates the added “aid” of the perimeter weighing and a little more apologies in the hits outside the center. This is exactly where I saw new value. While someone who naturally drops it low and rolls it low, I really were impressed with how I240 gave me height and rotation without sacrificing the speed or sensation of the ball. Usually, to get that kind of help, you need to give up something (it looks, workability or durability). Not here. I240 kept the speed of my ball overly stable across the face and gave me stronger strict distribution than I with my I230.
This is what makes me excited to work with I240 as a more convenient. This is a rare iron that can be inserted into a wide range of bags. A strong ball striker will appreciate the interaction of feeling, accuracy and terrain. But a player who is just a little unstable or needs help for starting will not feel like they are overloaded or give up on forgiveness. It is a versatile tool, and when you are adapting players of all skill levels, that skill is gold.
Final thoughts
Ping set out to make an iron player with forgiveness of improving the game, and they nailed him absolutely. I240 is the best iron I hit by ping. View, sound, feeling, performance – controls all my boxes “I have to have” as a gear.
If you’re on the fence, go hit them. I’m betting you will have the same reaction I made after my first swing: “Let’s move forward and build a group.”
