Pinehurst no. 4 to close for unexpected restoration: ‘Difficult decision’

Pinehurst Resort has 10 rules golf courses. But for at least a few months only nine will be played.

Tuesday, Pinhurst announced it is Very ranked and popular course no.4 It will close at the end of spring and for most of the summer so that the resort can complete an “complete restoration of unseen greens”.

“This season, the condition of the Pinehurst’s greens No. 4 did not respond as we envisioned and unfortunately did not fall to our standards,” the resort said in a statement. “As a result, we have made the difficult decision to close the PINEHURST No. 4 starting May 19 to complete a complete restoration of the greens.”

Pinhurst said the green did not grow as planned after a colder than normal winter, leading to the resort to reinvest on the placement surfaces rather than welcome visitors in under standard conditions.

“Earlier this spring, we were optimistic that the course would heal while heating temperatures, based on the contribution from agronomy experts,” the resort said. “However, despite these expectations, the conditions have not improved. A recent subsequent report confirmed what we have seen: the greens of No. 4 have continued to deteriorate.”

Pinhurst said he expects restoration to be completed by August 7, meaning that the course will close for less than three months in total, assuming that restoration increases with the expected rate.

“We deeply regret the impact this will have on the experience of our guests and members, and we have been communicating with them,” the resort said. “But we believe this is the right step ahead and gives us the best opportunity to turn no.4 to our high standards until later this summer.”
