Is forming to be a week of milestones for Russia Daniil Medvedev. Today he claimed his 400th career victory, defeating Quentin Hays 6-2, 7-5, and tomorrow he could win his 50th Grass Court victory against Stefano Tsitas or Alex Michelsen.
But for Medvedev, victories do not matter as much as big titles.
“To be 100 percent honest, he wins, I don’t think they matter,” he said.
Medvedev shared a story about Mikhail Yozhny approaching his 500 victory. He asked Youzhny’s coach what would happen if the milestones were never achieved, and the coach threw some wisdom on his way.

“His coach was like ‘Will what will change in his life if he does 500 or 499?’ Said Medvedev.
“I was like, it’s true. Grand Slams are important, titles are important. Many things are important in tennis, but the match wins in themselves, I don’t think they mean a lot, but if I get some records, maybe in my country, with the biggest victories, then I’m happy to do it.”
Medvedev has won 306 matches (111 losses) in strong courts, with 18 titles. At the bar he has 49 wins against 23 losses, and a title. In clay he is 45-35 with a title.
Russian is the tenth ATP player to hit the 400th sign.
