Phillies GM reveals his thoughts on the free agent market

The Philadelphia Phillies finished the 2024 season with a record of 95 wins and 67 losses, good enough to win the National League East.

Although the regular season was successful for the Phillies, they lost their first postseason series to the New York Mets in the National League Division Series.

After winning National League championships in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, the Phillies had a somewhat disappointing postseason in 2024.

Now that the season is over, the Phillies will set their sights on the free agent market.

Phillies general manager Preston Mattingly revealed his thoughts on the free agent market this offseason.

“There are a lot of guys on the open market that could improve our roster,” Mattingly said.

Mattingly describes himself as very optimistic about the Phillies’ roster in 2025.

A few areas that Mattingly said could be addressed include their bullpen and their outfield.

The Phillies will look to upgrade their roster this offseason, and Mattingly appears willing to pursue some free agents if they give the Phillies a better chance to win.

Juan Soto leads the free agent class this offseason, and it will be interesting to see if the Phillies pursue him for their outfield corps next offseason.

The Phillies haven’t won a World Series since 2008, though they lost in 2009 and 2022.

With a roster full of great talent including Bryce Harper, Trey Turner and Kyle Schwarber, the Phillies look to be World Series contenders again in 2025.
