PGA Tour Fantasy Golf is being refreshed for the new year.

As part of the Tour’s ongoing efforts to update and modernize its entertainment offerings, the Tour released a series of updates to its Fantasy Golf game for the 2025 season.

of new PGA Tour Fantasy includes a number of rule changes and features aimed at improving the fantasy product, which carries a small but loyal following among golfers. The biggest shift will be the creation of a new “squad captain” feature, which players will assign each week to earn double points for their roster – a change aimed at providing more differentiation between formations. The Tour also rolled out a new auto-swapping feature — known in other fantasy apps — that will automatically swap in new players if a ranked selection misses the cut in an event.

As part of the changes, the Tour also rolled out a number of updates to its site and app to allow for better overlap with the fantasy game. The biggest of these changes – a new real-time scoreboard – will allow fans to follow the action as it happens, rather than waiting until Monday morning to see their results.

Under the new format, winners of the tour’s quarterly and seasonal events will receive gift cards to the PGA Tour Superstore, with the Tour’s retail outfit as the presenting Fantasy game sponsor.

PGA Tour Fantasy Golf stays true to what fans loved about the previous version, but with fresh components that will undoubtedly deliver an elevated experience for both new users and longtime fans,” said Scott Warfield, VP of gaming at Tour, in a statement announcing the updates. “We are excited to have PGA Tour Superstore as our partner in this new Fantasy endeavor and we look forward to fans being able align more closely with the reimagined tour schedule, beginning with the Opening Drive in Hawaii.”

The Tour’s changes mark the latest effort to build on the explosion of fantasy sports over the past two decades, and more specifically the rise of specialty fantasy offerings over the past several years. While “traditional” fantasy sports like baseball and football have attracted broad appeal, so-called “alternative formats” like Guillotine leagues have attracted cult followings. The success of these offerings has led to a proliferation of updates in fantasy leagues across the sports world, which has helped fuel some of the latest round of golf-related changes.

The new PGA Tour Fantasy League comes at a time of turmoil for the Tour, which has undergone a series of structural changes in regular competitive format only in recent years. The biggest of these changes, a the new class of equity investors that has acquired a minority stake in the Tour business, enters the world of golf with aspirations to make golf more fun and accessible to regular fans of the sport.
