PGA Tour notifies any shipment at Kapalua, needs a new tournament location

PGA Tour needs a complementary place for his season opening event.

Tournament announced Tuesday that Sentry will not be played in Plantation in Kapalua in January due to constant drought conditions on the island of Maui.

The plantation course, with its massive changes in height and dreamed of the ocean, has long been a famous stopping in the New Year’s Eve, but current efforts of water preservation due to Maui district drought conditions have forced the tournament to move the event, which is planned for 8-11 January 2026.

By state dataMore than 90 percent of the Maui District and over 140,000 inhabitants are influenced by drought, which includes Kapalua Resort, a host of Sentry.

The tournament said that his agronomy team paid a visit to the SIT earlier this month and paid the course conditions, due to water restrictions, were compromised. He also cited logistical issues, which forced the tournament to make a decision month ago.

The tournament issued the following statement Tuesday: “After discussing with the Governor’s office, as well as the leadership by Sentry Insurance, Kapalua Resort and Maui County, PGA Tour has determined the 2026 Sentry game will not be opposed in the Capalua plantation course due to the continued drought conditions, agronomic conditions.

Resort previously notified It would close its plantation and breast courses for 60 days starting September 2.

“This decision was not made easily,” said Alex Nakajima, manager general of Kapojua Golf and tennis, in a statement at the time. “Closing at this time will allow us to begin careful recovery and restoration so that courses can meet once again the game standards deserve.”

Sentry is not only the first event of the year, but the first of the nine events of 2026’s signature, which means a larger bag ($ 20 million) and more star power in the field.

The second 2026 tour event, Sony Open at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, remains unchanged.

No information on a replacement place for Sentry has been released, though the next five after Sony are either in California (four events) or Arizona (one), so the tournament can decide to stick with a West Coast place for logistical purposes or create a mini West Coast Swing.
