I didn’t expect to get exciting by reading a new adult golf novel but Phenomena Philly It took me deep in my feelings.
Written by Nate Oxman, a school writer and teacher with deep ties with Merion Golf Club, the book follows 10-year-old Lee Lomax-equal, delightful and determined-while trying to unite his father, a fallen golf talent, again in the game. What begins as a story about the backyard’s placement competition turns into something deeper about family, loss and self -esteem.
What struck me most about the book was the purity of the golf seen through the eyes of a child – without mechanics, without any release angles, no money – just imagination, fun and passion. Fictional Ridley Creek Country Club, clearly inspired by real Philly clubs, feels like a second home. And the way Oxman wanders in a charity match of September 11 adds an emotional weight that caught my guard.
Of course, it is written for young readers, but themes – redemption, resistance, tracking the second chance – earth beyond. There is a real heart on these pages. And whoever grew about a muna or spent the summer trying to impress their father with a wedge kick will find something familiar.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely – especially for new golf players in your life.

Phenomena Philly
Ten -year -old Lee Lomax is trying to scratch a severe golf itching. Like many children, Lee idolizes his father, Sam, a talented golf who has been waiting for his game to focus on his family. But Lee is ruthless and vows to spend his summer at the country’s Blue Tower Club on the outskirts of Philly, hoping he will attract his father to do the same. Enter the despised Hal Rustin, who wants nothing more than to see the Lomax family stuck by the club. Sam may have no choice but to get inside. In the Philly phenomena, we follow Lee Lomax as he requires an arrangement for his golf obsession. It surrounds a special charity match, held on the first anniversary of September 11, as a possible cure and the possibility of a life for the Lomax family.
