Manchester City have confirmed that manager Pep Guardiola has signed a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola was approaching the final six months of his initial deal and sparked fears of an imminent exit in May when he admitted he was “closer to leaving than staying“.
Talk of an exit was further fueled by the departure of sports director and close friend Txiki Begiristainwho will leave the post in the summer. Many assumed Guardiola would follow suit, but an interview a few weeks later saw to it Guardiola hints at an extension.
New terms were agreed upon earlier this week and city They have now confirmed that Guardiola has put pen to paper on a new two-year extension. In his own words, he “doesn’t move.”
Guardiola’s new contract will bring the boss to more than ten years of service at City.
It will now prepare to work alongside the new sporting director Hugo Viana. The Sporting CP boss will formally start work at the end of the season but is expected to work alongside Begiristain in the final months of the campaign to ensure a smooth transition.
City have won six Premier League titles under Guardiola and finally lifted the Champions League trophy in 2023, adding to their many FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Community Shield triumphs.
