Penfold signs PGA Tour Pro Matt Wallace as brand ambassador

Penfold Golf, the British brand with a storied history dating back to 1927, has signed PGA Tour pro Matt Wallace (quite a Brit) as a brand ambassador.

Under most normal circumstances, this type of signature is barely newsworthy. For Penfold, however, this signing is significant. The brand dates back to 1927 and Legendary ball maker Albert Penfold. It eventually faded away before being reborn over the last decade as a premium lifestyle brand. For such a small company, every presence on the Tour is important.

For a British company, signing Wallace is a bit of a coup. Considered one of the most dynamic touring professionals in England, Wallace will be the first Penfold brand ambassador since Seve Ballesteros in 1979, the year Seve won his first Open Championship.

Penfold and Wallace: A union of the Union Jack

Wallace, 35, is a native Londoner and has been playing professionally since 2012. After winning four times on the European Tour, he joined the PGA Tour full-time in 2019. That year, Wallace tied for third at the PGA Championship and 12th at the US Open. He also finished sixth in that year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.

His only PGA Tour victory came in 2023 at the Corales Puntacana Championship.

“Matt embodies everything Penfold stands for, including British excellence, determination and a touch of understated style,” says Penfold Golf CEO Gavin Perrett. “As we continue to build on our incredible legacy, having a player of Matt’s caliber carry our bags and accessories is a perfect fit.”

Wallace says he is thrilled to be linked with former Penfold staff from the 1970s. It was Penfold’s heyday when its stellar staff included Ballesteros, Gary Player and Nick Faldo.

“Penfold has been part of British golf for almost 100 years,” said Wallace. “Representing an iconic brand that has always stood for quality and authenticity while hanging out with some of the game’s legendary players is something very special to me.”

The partnership will include product collaborations and personal appearances as Penfold approaches 100th anniversary in 2027.

The partnership starts immediately. Wallace will have a Penfold staff bag this weekend at The American Express in La Quinta, California. The bag is inspired by the one Seve used while working with Penfold in the 70s.
