A maintenance worker at Pebble Beach Golf Links was injured earlier this week when a mower he was riding slid off a cliff near the par-5 6th hole.
The man, whose name Pebble Beach did not release, was taken by Cal Fire to a nearby hospital, where he is said to be in good condition, according to a statement from Pebble beach resorts.
“We are in close contact with our employee and his family,” the statement said. “We are grateful that they report that he is doing very well.”
The accident happened on Monday morning, when the golfers were on the field; after the incident, the game was suspended for a while. Others maintenance workers working nearby called for help, a Pebble Beach spokesperson told GOLF.com.
The 6th hole at Pebble Beach is part of a stretch of coastline widely regarded as one of the most dramatic in the game. From an elevated pinnacle, the hole descends on a curving fairway, then over a steep rise and is bordered on the right by high cliffs approximately 75 feet overlooking Stillwater Cove.
It was on a steep climb that the accident happened. The maintenance worker was thrown from the mower, but it was not immediately known how far he fell. The mower also fell off the embankment but did not hit the man, the spokesman said.
Rain had fallen in the area earlier in the day, but it is unclear whether wet conditions played any role in the accident, the cause of which has yet to be determined, the spokesman said.
