PBC today made it official for Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis title defense of his WBA lightweight belt against Lamont Roach for December 14 on Amazon Prime Video at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
There is no word on the undercard for the Davis vs. Roach event not, but it will have to be a good one to motivate fans to shell out $75.95 to order it on PPV. If Premier Boxing Champions David Benavidez Vs. Including David Morrell for the co-feature would be a huge value addition.
Unsurprisingly, fan reaction to the Tank-Roach fight today has been almost entirely negative, with people labeling it “Trash” and “cherry picking”. A few fans are in favor of the matchup, and seem to feel that Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) will provide value. Those fans are greatly outnumbered, though, by those talking about the fight.
The fight was leaked ages ago, but now it’s official. What has yet to be revealed is the asking price for the PPV. That’s where the real backlash from the boxing public will come, with Tank Davis getting booed.
If Premier Boxing Champions wanted to make people happy, they would price the event in the $20 or less range to reflect the mismatch. It’s probably not going to happen. The likely price tag for the Tank-Roach event will be in the $75 range, and fans will have to take it or leave it.
It won’t be a big deal for Tank Davis to pick another soft opponent if he has fought quality opposition in his recent fights or any of them during his 11 year career for that matter. Unfortunately, Tank was an opposition who padded his record and took no risks with his career.
