British marathon record breaking TV presenter Gabby Logan also receives an OBE as Steve Perks and Joe Appiah receive an MBE.
At the peak of her long-distance running career, Paula Radcliffe was awarded an MBE. But the long-distance runner, who turned 52 a few days ago, has now been awarded an OBE in the King’s New Year’s Lists.
Radcliffe, whose 2:15:25 has held the marathon world record for many years, is described as a “host and athlete” in the New Year’s honors, with his latest recognition for “services to sport”.
BBC athletics presenter Gabby Logan has also been awarded an OBE for services to sport and broadcasting.
Elsewhere, there weren’t many athletics-related accolades in the latest wave of awards, which instead went to the Lions and Red Roses of the women’s football and rugby worlds.
However, Steve Perks was awarded an MBE for services to athletics. A long-time coach and head teacher, he is the Chair of Athletics for Wales and famously guided Jason Gardener, Darren Campbell, Marlon Devonish and Mark Lewis-Francis to Olympic 4x100m gold in Athens 2004.
Joe Appiah, the World and European Masters Sprint Steeplechase champion who recently moved up the M55 age group, was also awarded an MBE for services to sport. As well as athleticism his own age, a first AW: Odd Masters Athlete of the Year is a coach and official.

“Their quiet dedication speaks volumes for the decent, compassionate country we are proud of. On behalf of the entire nation, thank you and congratulations to everyone who was recognized today.”
