Manchester United fans could soon see a familiar face in Carrington, with reports suggesting Paul Pogba could train with the club following his recent exit from Juventus.
The French midfielder, now a free agent, is considering a potential return to Manchester for a third season at the club that launched his career.
Pogba’s relationship with Manchester United spans more than a decade, starting with his time at the club’s youth academy in 2009.
After moving to Juventus in 2012 due to limited first-team opportunities, Pogba established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe, winning several Serie A titles and winning individual accolades such as the Golden Boy and the Bravo Award.
His success in Italy caught the eye of his former club, leading to a record-breaking return to Old Trafford in 2016 for a fee of £89.3m. Despite moments of brilliance, including helping United win the Europa League and League Cup in his first season, Pogba’s second spell was marred by injuries and inconsistent performances.
After a tumultuous return to Juventus in 2022, which included recurring injuries and a doping ban, Pogba and the Italian club mutually terminated their contract last month, leaving him a free agent.
Louis Saha says Paul Pogba will be given the chance to train with Manchester United as a surprise
Louis Saha, a former Manchester United striker, has expressed his support for Pogba’s potential return to the club, particularly for training.
Speaking at Casino Utan Spelpaus, Saha expressed his belief that training with United’s high-calibre squad could help Pogba regain his top form as he looks towards a competitive return in March 2025 after comply with a reduced doping ban.
Saha said (quote via goal):
“I have heard some rumors that Paul Pogba will be offered the chance to come back and train with Man United in the New Year, and I think it would be a great opportunity for Paul. He needs to be back to his best as soon as possible, and training with the best players will help him do that. I think he would be delighted to have the opportunity to return to the club.
“I also think that Paul Pogba is still a very special player. When you think of midfielders, Pogba has unique qualities. I think United’s squad lacks power in midfield, and we lack a skillful player who can play from box to box, so he would be a good addition (to United’s squad) because he has a different player profile to that United have
“When I look at Pogba, I think a lot of Premier League teams would find signing him as a free agent an attractive proposition. Forget the salary, I’m sure Paul is prepared to find a compromise on that as wants to play football again after so long on the sidelines. When I think about Pogba, the signing has more positives than negatives, and I think he is a player that should interest Manchester United in January the Premier League should see the signing of Pogba on a free transfer as an incredible opportunity. That’s how I see it.”
Despite his difficult spells in the Premier League, he remains linked with a return to England, with several clubs linked with him recently. Newcastle and West Ham are among the clubs linked with a move for the Frenchman
The most surprising links come from Arsenal, with Ex-builder Emmanuel Petit prompts the club to make a move for the former Manchester United man.
