Cagliari’s late equalizer snatched a crucial point from Parma at the Estadio Ennio Tardini as Gaetano Oristanio canceled out Michael Folorunsho’s second-half opener in a hard-fought Serie A tie.
Parma sat 12th in Serie A with 32 points, looking to bounce back from recent defeats. Cagliari, 13th with 29 points, aimed to continue improving away from home.
The first half at the Estadio Ennio Tardini was a deceptive affair. Both teams were hesitant to commit going forward. Cagliari’s Juan RodrÃguez received the first yellow card of the game in the 21st minute.
As the half wore on, the challenges became more frequent. Alberto Dossena from CÃ ller was also booked in the 40th minute. The teams entered the break with the score tied at 0-0.
With the deadlock not broken, the coaches likely offered spirited team talks at halftime. Cagliari made a double substitution at the restart, bringing on E. Delprato and C. Ordonez to provide fresh impetus.
The second half saw an increase in bookings. Parma’s M. Pellegrino received a yellow card in the 56th minute for fouling. However, it was Cagliari that found the breakthrough.
Cagliari finally broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute as newly introduced substitute Michael Folorunsho fired home to give the visitors the lead. Sebastiano Esposito provided the crucial assist for Folorunsho’s effort.
The goal caused immediate tension. Parma’s Lautaro Valenti was booked in the 63rd minute. Cagliari’s I. Sulemana was also booked just two minutes later in the 65th minute.
Parma struggled for a response, showing resilience at home. Their efforts paid off in the 83rd minute as half-time substitute Gaetano Oristanio equalized at home and electrified the Estadio Ennio Tardini.
As the match entered its final phase, both teams made more tactical substitutions. Cagliari introduced M. Keita in the 75th minute. Parma brought on I. Sulemana and S. Esposito in the 87th.
A yellow card at the end of Cagliari’s Adam Obert in the 90+4th minute underlined the final tension of the game.
The statistical analysis highlighted Parma’s offensive intent, recording 15 shots in total with 4 on target and enjoying 55% possession. Their expected goals (xG) of 1.16 suggested they created the best chances.
CÃ ller, meanwhile, managed 11 shots in total, 5 on goal, but generated a lower xG of 0.52, indicating fewer clear-cut opportunities.
This spectacular 1-1 draw means that Parma advance to 33 points, remaining 12th in the table. CÃ ller also reaches 30 points, remaining in 13th place. The two sides continue their fight for mid-table comfort in a competitive Serie A campaign.
