A surprise recall to Chelsea’s first-team squad for Trevoh Chalobah means Crystal Palace need to find a defender somewhere.
The 26-year-old had been successfully loaned out to the Eagles before Enzo Maresca decided he wanted the centre-back back at his disposal.
Everything seems to change at Stamford Bridge, like Chelsea are trying to land Marc Guehi also from Palace, a decision that will surely not go down well with Oliver Glasner.
Trevoh Chalobah’s withdrawal from Chelsea does not help Palace
In fact, Crystal Palace risk losing up to eight playerss, and any progress made under the Austrian after a sticky patch is sure to derail the Eagles’ recent form.
After just two wins in 10 games, Palace have won three of their last four, drawing the other (who scored).
Seeing Chalobah come out right at the point where the team was coming back on track is a huge disappointment.
Fabrizio Romano names two potential Chelsea transfer targets!
However, Foot of Africa Note that Palace have already identified his replacement.
FC Midtjylland only signed Ousmane Diao six months ago and the level of his performances has marked him as an excellent addition to the Danis team.
Palace want Diao to replace Trevoh Chalobah
Conversely, the vultures are already circling the 20-year-old who is believed to be available for the region of just €4 million.
The centre-back is over six-foot but can also do a decent job at right-back, indicating a versatility that could come in handy for Palace towards the end of the campaign.
With just a couple of weeks left in the January transfer window, Oliver Glasner and the Palace board will need to move quickly if they are to land the player.
Fulham and FC Porto are also reported to be interested in Diao’s services, so there is even more need for the south Londoners to be quick off the blocks.
