The International Cricket Council (ICC) has come out with the latest update on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and its events in India and Pakistan during the 2024-2027 legal period. The renewal resolves disputes over both countries’ hosting rights for the next three years.
Last month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that India has refused to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held in February-March next year. As a result, the tournament saw a lot of twists and turns before the start.

Pakistan’s compensation for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Hybrid Model announced
According to the renewal, the matches in ICC events involving India and Pakistan, which will be hosted by both the countries, will be played at neutral ground. This rule will apply to events that occurred during the years 2024-2027.
The decision was approved at the meeting of the ICC council on December 19, 2024. This will apply to the upcoming Champions Trophy, which will be hosted by Pakistan. It will also apply to the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, which will be hosted by India.
Pakistan will also host the 2026 T20 World Cup matches at a neutral venue under the new rule. This tournament will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Although the UAE appears to be the most likely location to host these games, it is yet to be confirmed.
Pakistan was also awarded the right to host the 2028 T20 Women’s World Cup by the BCC in this council meeting. Although the tournament is held outside the rights period, the rules regarding neutral venues will apply here as well.
The CT 2025 schedule has not yet been announced
When India was willing to play all its Champions Trophy matches outside Pakistan and the PCB agreed to it, the ICC solved a major problem. As a result, the final schedule The tournament is scheduled to be announced soon.
Only eight will participate in the Champions Cup 2025 teams. The teams are divided into two groups of four teams each. The teams that will participate in the tournament are Afghanistan, AustraliaIt hosts Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand and South Africa and Pakistan.
Pakistan also won the tournament in 2017 by defeating India in the final. All the teams except India have confirmed their visit to Pakistan.
BCCI claims that they did not get proper permission from the Indian government to send their team to Pakistan.
India’s last visit to Pakistan
India last visited Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2008 where they finished second. Since then, political relations between the two nations have gone from bad to worse due to the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
The last bilateral series between the two countries was played in 2013 when Pakistan traveled to India for two T20Is and three ODIs. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s last visit to India was during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
