Padraig Harrington It is not much of an observer of the drivers. So, when, in the last round of the top open championship on Sunday, Thomas Bjorn, playing in the penultimate pair after Harrington, made the 11th and 12th birds to get within three of Harrington’s 13th superiority, Harrington did not have the fog.
“The only time I saw a steering chart was at 18,” Harrington said after the round. “I asked Ronan (flood, his cadet) in 17 what was my lead, and I never looked at a steering chart. It was completely focused on what I was doing.”
We can argue in another space the benefits and shortcomings of peeking results below the stretch, but Harrington had a plan and he gripped it.
He would deceive the 17th, but no matter – at that moment, he still held a comfortable lead and his first top open title was in his claws. After a money in 18, Harrington finished three clearly of Bjorn and Justin Leonard to become one of just five players who have won both the open championship and the high championship.

Another entertainment attack on Harrington’s victorious Sunday at Sunningdale? Rory Mcilroy was there to testify.
Or part of it, however.
Mcilroy, who recently moved to a new home in nearby Wentworth, set up by the old Sunningdale course to take some of the fourth round actions. In dark sunglasses and with masterfully cut hair, he walked the property and posed for photos with fans. Harrington’s reaction to participate in reigning masters champion?
“I didn’t see it there,” he told reporters. “Was he there?”
When a reporter joked, “He was not on the chin, but without knowledge,” Harrington said, “I had my head down all day. I never saw anyone. I had no idea.”
After his victory, Harrington, who had twice finished the race and once and for once, spoke about the importance of prevailing in this still-young age championship.
“You start to end up in those positions, and all of a sudden it becomes a mill stone around your neck,” he said. “You want to win this win over the entire line early. You know, the golden era to win in the Champions tour is about 55, 56. So you didn’t want to leave it a few years or would become tougher and tougher.”
