Career on the edge
Former two divisions world champion Valdez (32-3, 24 COs) is trying to save his career after losing two out of his last three fights since 2022. This fight is a must-win situation for the 34-year-old Valdez. If he was beaten by Medina (16-3, 9 COs), it would be difficult to get back from it. If Oscar loses, he can always drop weight to featherweight and try to find himself out there.
The battle is a rebuild for Valdez after his sixth round loss to WBO Super Featherweight Champion Emanuel Navarrete in their re-broadcast on December 7, 2024. In thought Valdez probably never had to fight with Navarrete after losing him with a wide 12-round unanimous in their first battle on August 12, 2023.

Medina has lost to Raymond Ford, Geo Lopez and George Acosta for the past three years. On June 25, 2022, he went the distance in a unanimous loss of 10 round to Ford. He did not win a round, but he still survived the whole battle without being stopped by Raymond. It was impressive.
Valdez’s search for a title
“In boxing I had my uphill and downhill. The main goal for me is now to become a world champion again,” Oscar Valdez said. “I want to return to some as a world champion, and I want to be your champion. I have to get through this battle.
“I take this battle very seriously. I respect Ricky Medina a lot. I saw him fighting. He is strong and young, and he has the same dream I have. All boxers want to become world champions, which is why we are all here. I’m focused on what I have to do, what’s going to win.
