Oscar Piastre wants to see Pedro Acosta on a ‘competitive bike’ with Marc Marquez

Oscar Piastre says the title fight between Pedro Acosta and Marc Marquez in MotoGP will be ‘very good’.

Marquez The 2025 world championship was dominated by Ducati, and Acosta finished fourth. The KTM rider scored 12 podiums (including sprints) but failed to win a race.

The pecking order has changed this year, with Ducati struggling. The Aprilia hybrids of Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin reached the top two Acosta Third and Marquez dropped to fifth place.

Oscar Piastre wants to see Pedro Acosta and Marc Marquez

The opening sprint race of the year gave a glimpse of what the title battle between Marquez and Acosta could look like. The two riders were involved in an exciting game that ended with #93 being penalized.

With Acosta unlikely to race this year and Marquez’s prospects uncertain given KTM’s continued limitations, the two riders are expected to be teammates at Ducati in 2027.

Asked if Acosta could take on Marquez in the ‘next couple of years’, Piastri said. Quad lock“That will be great to see. Marquez – I think this year (2025) has been amazing from him, but to see Pedro on a bike that can compete on the bike will be great for all of us to see.”

Acosta (21) has been widely touted as the next Marquez (33), so the master vs apprentice narrative makes the rivalry even more compelling.

Acosta was sponsored by Quad Lock, which gave him the opportunity to share the karting track with Piastre.

According to The Australian, Acosta showed ‘amazing’ speed on four wheels, so much so that his fellow F1 drivers were skeptical about his lap time.

He was very fast. I guess he had a go-kart before and never told anyone! The track we went to is near Monaco, so there are a lot of F1 drivers around who use it.

“I told a few of them, ‘Pedro was really fast,’ and they were all b——-. If he doesn’t have a go-kart and that’s his first time, it’s very, very impressive.”

He’s incredibly talented on two wheels, so it wouldn’t be that surprising if he was good on four. I was amazed at how good he was.

Unlike Lewis Hamilton, who once rode Valentino Rossi’s Yamaha bike, Piastre has no interest in a two-wheeled track day for fear of injury.
