After injuring her left leg near the end of her second-round win over Suzan Lamens in Osaka, Naomi Osaka has been forced to withdraw from her quarter-final match, sending Jaqueline Cristian into the semi-finals.
A heavy blow for the four-time great champion, who turned 28 yesterday.
No official statement on the severity of the injury has come from Osaka. She is 30-15 on the season and recently reached the semifinals at the US Open, her best performance at a major since 2021.
The 45 games are the most she has played in a calendar year since 2019.
