Osaka, Andreescu and Anisimova awarded US Open Wild Cards

A pair of former champions have been awarded women’s singles wild cards in this year’s US Open draw.

The tournament awarded main draw wild cards to the two-time champion Naomi Osaka and 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu on Wednesday, and finalized eight wild card slots for the women’s tournament.

The 2018 and 2020 champions Osaka and Andreescu will be joined by the Americans Amanda Anisimova, McCartney Kessler, Iva Jovic AND Alexa Noel.

Four-time major champion Osaka is currently ranked 90th and is in her first season back after missing maternity leave.

Andreescu is ranked 166. She missed most of the season with a back injury. In 2019, Andreescu became the first player to win the US Open on her main draw debut, a feat later matched by Emma Raducanu in 2021.

of France Chloe Paquet and Australia Taylah Preston were granted wild cards through their countries’ reciprocal agreements with the USTA.


The US Open main draw begins on Monday, August 26, while qualifying begins the following Monday, August 19.

The 21-year-old Noel won NCAA women’s singles titles this year for the University of Miami. The 16-year-old Jovic won the USTA Girls’ Under-18 National Championship title in San Diego.
