Erin, Wis. – Last summer, Open Women of Women of NELLY KORDA Lancaster Country Club ended prematurely. She shot 80 in the opening round – displaying a 10 destructive in the score card – and could not be collected to make the cut. At the time since then, she said the experience “put a dagger in her heart”.
This week at Erin Hills, there were no 10 on the score card and there were no rounds in the 80s. However, at the end of it, the feelings were very popular.
“Just an absolute heartbroken,” Korda said. “But that’s golf.”
Golf for Cord this week was actually Good enough. She fired three rounds or better in a USGA brutal configuration. She posted a 67-year-old in round 2 that was tied to the second lowest result of the week. And she directed the field to the strokes won: driving, an essential component for success in a large ball like Erin Hills. Java had all the products of something really special. But with the Sun that sinks low on Wisconsin agricultural land on Sunday afternoon, there was a single name on the name of Korda on the score table: Strict.
Since the debut at Open’s Womens Open at the age of 14, there has been no title that Cord wants more. The performance she united this week was good enough to defeat everyone, but a competitor in the field. But in the Golf game, there are no trophies scattered for the second best. In the following years, the week at Erin Hills will only be remembered for Cordes as another close call.
As she sat in front of the media discussing her latest rise, Maja Stark was a few hundred meters away in the 18th green. With a three-stroke lead playing the 72nd hole, there will be a collapse Jean Van de Velde-Esque to question the result.
Cord would not be the beneficiary of any such destiny. Although Stark would deceive her last two holes, a total four-day 281 (seven under) was the best in the field by two shots. Korda and Rio Takeda were tied up for the second.
“When you approach so close and feel the adrenaline descends 18, the only thing you want to do is keep the trophy at the end of the day,” Korda said. “And I’m not.”
While Stark read to place the ending touches on her big triumph, the competitor went through a herd of children near the green practice begging for her signature. She signed hats and took selfie for 10 minutes and then walked to collect her things from the closet room. A few moments later, she went out and headed to the parking lot. It was $ 1 million richer, but extra zeros on her bank account would say a little without the final price.
“Golfists, many of us, are perfectionists,” Korda said. “So when I go out here and a golf course prevails you as it does, it’s never a beautiful feeling.”
There may have been few hyperbole in its characterization of “dominance”, but a week from us open conditions will leave you a little bored no matter where you end up on the manager’s table. If there were a course area that took the best of the cord, it was the landing surfaces.
While she was the best player in the Green field, she was evenly amazed at the green. Of the 60 players who made the cut, the cord was ranked 52nd in SG: setting. within All except its second round -When she posted her low 67-she tour she lost strokes in the greens. By comparison, Stark, the eventual champion, bound for the fourth in the week’s setting. If you are looking for a change creator, there you have it.
“I just have to continue to knock on the door,” Korda said. “Hopefully it will open.”
If it ever opens, the cord will have to be called in every aspect of its game. She brought it to all, except an area this week, but ultimately cost him dearly.
“I will pray some strokes to come in,” she said.
If they had, the week of Korda would have ended up in champagne instead of being on the eve of history.
